It was my great grandmother's name. She died a few years ago, she meant a lot to me. She was soo sweet! She lived a long time too. I'd love to pass that name onto my daughter but is that too old fashioned?
thanks for your help! =D

I think its really sweet that you want to name your daughter after some one who meant so much to you. I named my eldest daughter after my Grandmother who passed. I used a variation of her name. My Grandmother was named Leena Rae and I named my daughter Leah Rae. If you don't feel comfortable using Bertha as your daughters name maybe use it as a middle name or find a variation of it.

I used to work with a really cool woman named Bertha. A more common name that I think I would use (and all the letters are in Bertha) is Beth. It would also be neat as a middle name. My husband's grandma was Beulah, and I think that would make an awesome middle name.

It reminds me of Bertha Jorkins from the Harry Potter series... (but not every one's as crazy as I am!)

If the name means something special, I'd say go for it. I have a few friends with somewhat old fashioned names and if anything they've made it cool & modern again. Name fashions come and go so don't be scared to name your daughter something you deem a little old fashioned.

If you're still worried you could use it as a middle name insetad.

:)

Make it a middle name and bury it between three others.

Ex: Elizabeth Marie Claire Bertha Jones
Shauna Jane Louise Bertha Smith
You get the idea.

You're right is definately is old fashion. When I think of Bertha I think of an old lady. But it's sweet that you want to name her afte ryour grandmother. Why don't you use Bertha as a middle name instead.

Hi, I would use Beth as a variation of Bertha. You might unconsciously compare the two Bertha's when the child is older. I think Beth is much prettier than Bertha to!

Hayden Bertha
Morgan Bertha
Avery Bertha
Annabelle Bertha

I would use it as a middle name. Bertha is not a nice name, you picture a big bully. My mom died, her name was Julia Elizabeth, My daughter is Hayley Elizabeth.
We use the middle name
What's you grandma Middle name
Maybe her middle Bertha

I think it's a bad idea. It's nice that you want to name your baby after your grandma but if your daughter is even the slightest bit overweight her life will be hell. She'll be known as big bertha. Kids are way more cruel nowadays than when your gram was a child.

Absolutely not. Bertha would be beautiful if you named your daughter in honor of your grandmother. Although make sure her middle name is something more "common" ( i hate using that word) or something less old fashioned that way in case she chooses to do so she can go by her middle name.
Maybe something like:

Bertha Elizabeth
Bertha Rose
Bertha Danielle
Bertha Jane

or idk but something along those lines. I assume you understand. =)
