Sad isn't it. I had my car in the shop once they put extra parts on my car without asking me first then gave me this huge bill and would not give me my car. I was so mad, I grabbed some family and friends within a coupe hrs. We had signs and picketed in front of the business. After 15 or so min. of honking cars They gave me my car and I was on my way/

.I am not a professional mechanic but I do my own repairs and I can say these newer cars are very time consuming and some of the problems I have fixed on cars I would not do for someone else for any price as the would not be enough money in the world to get me to do the job. Mechanics deal with this every day and I know that is a big reason why they charge so much for the repairs that they do.

Substitute the word "Doctor" in place of mechanic and tell me what makes them better?!
A doctor goes to college for 6 to 8 years.
A mechanic goes to college for 4 to 6 years then has continuing education for the rest of his career, on his dime.
A doctor has all needed equipment provided to them.
A mechanic has to buy all his equipment and keep it updated yearly.
A mechanics "patient" changes every year with several new models. A doctor has 2 that never change.
A doctor charges to fix mistake(s). Most auto shops don't.
A shops hourly rate is way,way below a doctors.
A doctor and mechanic can make mistakes that kill people, more than ofter it is the doctor though, and they STILL change you thousands!

and last but not least. If your mechanic is a slime ball it is more than likely due to your miscommunication of the problem or your attitude toward the person.

They are just like every other corporation in the world, they just aren't as good at hiding their cons and convincing you that what they are selling is worth the amount of money they are asking. Why single them out, most of America consists of slimeballs, that are trying to rip people off. Don't beleive me? Accept all of your spam for about a week and read it. : )

in all jobs that provide a service youwill get those who try to rip you off. But to call all eg, mechanic isnt right .
I have been ripped off in the past but I have a good mechanic now who i trust ... I just payed $320 to have tie rods replaced, Firestone wanted just under $1000. so.. eh...
He replaced a oil pump on a ford explorer for me for $200 the dealer wanted $900 .....
Not all are bad .. but you get what you deserve

if you under stood the work they do the training involved and the cost to a mechanic to provide his own tools to do the job. then maybe you could understand more about the priceing structure used. most mechanics are honest with their customers though all people make mistakes. and some times a tech can get into a job that he has trouble doing. so please don,t blame all of us if you got taken by a bad tech do the responsible thing and work it out with him the best that you can and then warn every one that you know calling him out by name that will do more good than stereotyping an industry of hard working honest men.

None of us in dealerships dont and never did.We come to work every day to repair and service our owners cars and trucks. We have spent years training and learning to repair your car or truck better than anyone else.To say all mechanics rip you off makes you a fool. For you to say this trash shows just how little you know about our trade. And how hard we work every day to keep your car or truck running good and safe on the road.

That's only true for the majority of big business mechanics like Jiffy Lube and Walmart. They are the real slimeballs. The smaller business ones rely ON your loyalty, so they won't do such a thing...Walmart and Jiffy Lube can care less about loyalty and customer satisfaction.

Well it's like this you pay them to do nothing. but its like anyone else they believe they provide a valuable service and they are going to exploit it like everyone else. if they charge what minimum wage is and worked all day and had constant business they wouldn't be payed enough to even come close to making a living and on top of that its almost like freelance you never know people's cars may not break down for 2 or 3 days and what do you do if that happenes? exactly they charge enough to cover themselves which is good for them and usually bad for the person gettting something fixed.

Because they know the majority of people know nothing about cars and want to take advantage of that fact.

However, not all mechanics are like that...there are some honest ones. Just like a good doctor, you just have to find them- but they are out there.

Not all of them are. It's just the real slimeballs that make the rest of them look bad.
