Work ethic is essential as a salesman. I also believe the most successful salesman are honest and trust worthy. Don't sell something you don't believe in yourself. It is also important to use your sphere of influence. In other words friends, and family. Most of your business will come from people related to your or from friends and there referrals.
I suggest buying some books on type about sales tactics. You can find them at any book store. Pop them in while you drive and take the tips you find helpful.
