*coughcough* foodfight! *coughcough*
I went to Joseph H. Gaudet Middle School, in Middletown 1983-1987.
For lunch we often had "Salisbury steak" which of course was the famous Mystery Meat. It would come with several things, including rehydrated mashed potatoes and this syrupy kind of gravy. When mixed up and flung at the wall with a plastic spork, the mixture would adhere to the cafeteria wall in no time flat, the potatoes drying up and becoming as hard as concrete.
Also, straws made very good peashooters (literally!) and if you connected empty cardboard milk cartons with straws (through holes punctured by a fork) , you got an instant "pretend" space station.
There were also lots of ways to tick off the wrinkly, shaky old lunch ladies . . .
