I NEED A LAPTOP FOR COLLEGE AND I WANT IT TO LAST ME AND FOR IT TO BE OF GOOD QUALITY. I DONT WANT IT TO BE TOO EXPENSIVE AND NOT CHEAP AT ALL. I AM WILLING TO PAY FROM $500-$900. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I prefer ASUS, an original equipment designer. The other major brands are just system builders and they buy their motherboards from ASUS, Foxconn, etc. I would rather just buy from one of the best motherboard makers - ASUS.

Dell Inspiron 1501 / 1505 / 1520 You can get a great machine for between $700-800

if u are going to a design school, the best would be Mac.
other than that, the Viao, compaq/HP can do the job u need and they'll last up to 3-4 years. but the main thing is that u know how to care for your battery. and use the external cooling pad!
