I bought all these new work shirts in what I thought to be my size, but they are too damn big. As you know it all depends on the designer, and these shirts are too big for my liking and look stupid on me. If I washed and dried them myself would they shrink? I would then of course take them promptly to the dry cleaners.

If they are made of 100% cotton ...then yes they would shrink but not necessarily to make it a perfect fit. Can't you take the shirts back?

If you bought 100% cotton. Cotton/poly blends do not shrink. You would have to wash the shirts in the hottest water, dry in the hottest dryer, and this would probably be 1 to 2 sizes. The problem with doing it though is it could cause puckering in the seams around the arms and collar because of the thread also shrinking.
