The 2.33ghz Core 2 Duo (T7600) processor sells for about $500 more retail than the lowest clock speed Core 2 Duo processor (I believe 1.66ghz).

My question is, does it even cost the manufacturer $5 more dollars to make a 2.33ghz than a 1.66ghz processor?

Well to put it simply, no. All processors in a particular series are usually made of the exact same cores, but just set to run at different speeds. Sometimes if you see some processors with a certain amount of cache, and then lower end ones of that same series with half the cache, the lower end ones are simply cores who for whatever reason had part of their cache not work. But basically, there is not cost difference in producing the lowest end Core 2 Duo and the highest end.

the cost comes at research and development, but it has all ways been like this you'll pay for premium
