This is one of the best and funniest questions I've ever
seen on here...and personally, I can't give you a good
answer without incurring the wrath of AA. I think that
sobriety is a grim state of affairs. I don't mean from
alcohol inparticularly, but from life and all it's fantastic
excitement. What's wrong with people out there..they
all look so depressed. Throwing out the T.V. and
getting rid of the computer, buying a one way ticket
around the world...these are things that will make
everyone wake the F. up and start living again. Everyone
is so afraid of everything and think that they need to be
ball and chained to some kind of corporation in order
to get free aspirin....I don't get it. Get drunk on life...
it's all out there waiting. Pass the Whalers.

I think people like that they are the same person all the time. When you take stuff to alter your state of mind (drugs, alcohol, caffiene, whatever) it changes your behavior and thus your relationships with others. There is less continuity and harmony to your life patterns.
disclaimer: I drink probably 2-3 times per week. I can just see how people would want to not do it. I think someday I won't drink at all.

I am a recovering alcoholic and it was fun at first, but it is out of control when you drink to stop anxiety and shaking. I was losing good friends because my behaviour was sloppy and stupid. My friends video taped me drunk and that is when I sought treatment and 1 of the best things I have ever done. My Man and good friends always knew I was serious and are still there for me. I go yo alot of dinners and people that know me know I love rootbeer and ginger ale

The classic Catch-22: you have to stay sober in order to work so that you can make enough money to get drunk.
It's a cruel world....
Or, it could be that I just haven't found that right drink to set me off!

So that you will knows what can do and what cannot do. The correct things. And you also does not need someone else to look after you and disturb their normal routine life.

Well in my case alcohol is a toxic poison. So as I wish to live a bit longer I don't drink the stuff, but when I want to die I can quite literally drink myself to death.

Okay. A serious answer in question-form -
Why would people escaping the drudge of life want to live longer and remain sober?

Because I'd like to keep my job, driving instructor, also don't like the 'out of control' feeling that comes with being intoxicated.
