I am thinking about buying a townhome and I wonder if there is a law or something about not being able to put up a fence. I know in rowhomes you can but I don't see them in townhome developments...anybody know the answer to this?

As some others have stated, regardless of what municipal ordinances indicate, your answer lies in the by-laws of your townhome association. If such is included in the by-laws you can legally be prohibited from construction of a fence, since by purchasing, you are agreeing to abide by these documents.

Check them carefully before purchasing.

Yes you can but check w/ your town on what you can and can not do. For example some towns say you have to put the finished side facing your neighbors.
Others allow you to have the nice side facing your home.

Good luck. Warning...my first house was a townhouse. I had a great neighbor the the left and a neighbor I fought everyday to the right. If at all possible look into buying a single home. Maybe a fixer upper...

Refer to your townhome's by-law's. But most townhomes don't let you do this. Also, you can contact the property manager and ask.
