no, you can't keep them together unless breeding them. this takes a lot of work and patience. you'd need to do a lot of research first.
to answer the answerer above's question although you can't keep them together all the time but you can while breeding because in the wild the males have their own territory and the female swim freely, when she comes across a male she can mate or swim away. in a tank she can't swim away so she gets attacked. the male will attack her after breeding to chase her away because she will eat the eggs.

You need to keep them separated. Males and females will fight as well, especially if they aren't conditioned for breeding. If one partner is ready to spawn and the other isn't the one that isn't will most likely be killed or injured by the other (regardless of gender).
It is possible to keep female bettas together if they have a large enough tank, and as long as they are kept in a group of three or more. They will pick on each other, but once they establish an order of dominance they will usually get along well. Be sure there are plants or other places for the fish to get away from others, though.

You don't want to do that. Withotuh the proper care and envorinment for your bettas, the chances are that theres a 3% chance they will breed and have babies and live happily ever after, and theres a 7% chance they will like each other but not breed and then you have your 90% chance that the male will completly kill the female to death by biting pushing and tearing her apart alive. Its a big risk with bettas being together. Either you end up with the male killing the female, or you end up with a ton of baby bettas and nowhere to put them !!

Yes, you need to separate them immediately. Male bettas are aggressive towards both male AND female bettas, and the two will fight to the death. Males and females should only be together when spawning, and even then they must be carefully conditioned before breeding.

Sort of, it depends on the mating situation. I'll assume you bought the two different sexes to breed them.
If they mate, I believe the male gaurds the eggs and he may show signs of aggresion towards the female. Seperate them when the eggs are laid.

It all depends on the personality. I had them together before, and they were fine. Try to get a large tank if you want them together and some good hinding places.
