Evaluate just means solve.
6 times 6 = 36
-6 times -6 = 36
That means 6 or -6 is the square root of 36.
Square root of x just means "what number squared equals x?"

√36 = 6 or -6. All square roots include both the positive and negative value unless the negative root is specified with a negative sign in front : -√36 = only -6. Or if the problem does not allow a negative value, only the positive value is used

Go with what Mathassignment said: plus or minus 6.
Multiplying 6*6 gives 36, but so does multiplying -6 times -6. That's the mistake most people make -- assuming that the answer is just the positive root.

Sure, the answer is 6, but what does 6 REALLY represent?
Were we to evaluate the number 6 we woud see that it is the second smallest composite number, its proper divisors being 1, 2 and 3. Since six equals the sum of these proper divisors, six is a perfect number. As a perfect number, 6 is related to the Mersenne prime 3, since 21(22 - 1) = 6. The next perfect number is 28. Six is the first discrete biprime and the first member of the (2.q) discrete biprime family. Six is also a unitary perfect number, a harmonic divisor number and a highly composite number. The next highly composite number is 12.
