Please, are you guys really serious? Do you honestly think hes going to become a dictator? Have you ever heard or checks and balances, or the constitution? And who would enforce it, the US Military isn't going to become Bush's private mercenary army, don't forget they are American husbands, wives, fathers, sons, mothers, daughters as well.

Well you've got a point captain colllector. He could use blackwater, but the real US military would still destroy them in no time.

Superpolitics, you obviously didn't read the executive order the asker was referring to. (see first post in that question) In no way whatsoever does it criminalize the anti-war movement as he put it, it is clearly fear-mongering.

You have to remember - they get paid to write that stuff. Seriously the far left (and right) have paid interns out there spewing this stuff left and right - they get paid by the question I'm pretty sure.

I've heard of checks and balances and congressional oversight and judicial independence and the Geneva Convention, and the Constitution. I've also seen Bush subvert those things.
I've also heard all about how the military is so firmly behind Bush that they value that connection more than their connection to the country should a Democrat take office next time. Doesn't that worry you a bit?
Neo cons are, in their own way so sure that they have the only answer that they fall over themselves to eliminate the opposition. Its a very uneasy feeling to know that things I never thought the government would be allowed to do are happening and then being told I'm supposed to welcome them or be called unpatriotic.
Its not a laughing matter, unless you are unaware of the deliberate way they have already abrogated their responsibility to their country.

There's a difference between saying "This guy's starting to act like a dictator" and saying "Oh, I'm so scared of the big bad dictator!"

Falling in the first camp, my reasons for concern (NOT the same as fear) include the fact that the checks and balances haven't been given a lot of respect lately. Consider these terms: "I don't recall," "Executive privilege," and "Contempt of Congress."

All of which have been in the news recently, and all coming either from the White House or the Attorney General. All of which fly in the face of checks and balances.

Ever heard of Blackwater, that's going to be his army and checks and balances are a joke these days, the jerk hasn't been held accountable yet, not that I think he's really on the way to becoming a despot, enough Americans would rise against any such move

Cute phrasing -- and have you considered the concept of hyperbole?

But yes, there are legitimate concerns that Bush might try to become a Dicator (what he calls "the Decider") because Bush is already ignoring checks and balancing, and already ignoring constitutional requirements.

Your point about military enforcement is valid -- which is the reason why it's only a mild concern, not a virtual certainty.

You fool! The invisible black govt helicopters are circling your house right now. Repeat after me, Big Bad Boogieman Bush! Don't worry Cindy Sheehan is going to save us all. Who are these poor fools going to hate after 1/21/09? You don't suppose they'll get lives or something. Maybe they'll still be protesting him in 2040.

The asker was alluding to the plutocratic fascist tendencies that are so prevalent with this administration, but you are too party addicted to see it.

The guy above me makes reference to Blackwater, yes you should google BLACKWATER.

Not me. But I am concerned that Bush hasn't closed our borders after 9/11 and now he says that al Qaeda may attack the US this summer.

I'm also concerned that he will attack Iran. So laugh all you want...these are real concerns.

Libs don't believe that they just use that to achieve their own power. Throughout history they have used fear and intimidation to control people
