Just sounds like a dead battery . You need a jumpstart, and new "half", if he can't tell the bloody difference.

Check the battery cables for looseness or corrosion. Clean and retigten them 1st. If it starts, then you solved the problem. If the cables are in good condition and the connections are tight, then you may have a bad starter. Borrow a test light and connect to the cable leading to the starter, turn on the power. If the test lite lites up then you have power going to the starter and the starter should be replaced. Only other thing it may be is that the engine is seized. Have some one remove all the belts just in case you have a siezed water pump or alternator bearing. Try to start the car, if it starts, then you have a bad water pump or alternator. Try spinning the pump or alternator by hand. If you cant turn one of them, then this is your problem. Worse case is that the engine is siezed. Check the oil level. If it is very low or no reading on the dipstick, then more than likely the engine is siezed and needs replacing.
good luck..........

Yeah, probably some problem with the battery. Bad battery, loose/corroded terminals, loose ground strap are all possibilities. Also might have a bad alternator/regulator, or a short in the electrical system. A solenoid problem is unlikely, though possible. If it's always either a good quick start or a click, but never a half-hearted attempt at starting, then a loose wire with intermittent contact is likely.

Hi,
My first guess is the obvious, ~dead battery~, which is an easy fix. Check those cables to make sure they are attached good and tight and if they are corroded you can clean them with backing soda and if they are just shot tell hubby they are pretty cheap at the auto store...The second thought is your starter solenoid, a little tricky but not the end of the world. Either way it is all fixable without much drama.
Good luck *!*

The clicking sound is your starter, it is getting power but not enough to spin the engine, look at your connections to the battery and starter and just tug a little and see if they are loose, if they are not real loose they are dirty or corroded and need to be cleaned with a wire brush.

recharge battery if its a repeated clicking.
"there was no sound and all the lights on my dash came on but brake light goes off and there is a clicking noise under bonnet"
"there was no sound...there is a clicking noise"
does that seem logical?

dead/ weak battery. If you have a deep cell try charging it, if you have a regular battery have it checked and replace if thats what it is.
