Hmm. If you both get treated, it shouldn't happen again.
If he gets circumcised and you still carry the infection, it won't make any difference.
It's best that you both get treated for it AT THE SAME TIME (you both have it if you've had sex) and see how it goes from there. If you both don't have an infection, it shouldn't come along. Chances are that if you got the infection (yeast infections are more common with women) you could have passed it to him. You both can use the same cream.
Personally I think the doctor is going extreme with saying surgery is needed for a small yeast infection.
Otherwise, here are circumcision's risks:

Circumcision is extremely painful.

The USA is the last advanced nation doing it, but rates have fallen down from over 90% in the 1960s to as low as 21% here in California currently. From CNN:

http://www.cirp.org/library/statistics/USA/staterates2004/
Circumcision was actually promoted in the USA at first to stop masturbation (in hopes of it being tight enough to require lubes and not have skin to slide since the foreskin is already moist)

USA = highest HIV rates in advanced nations (and highest circumcision rates). CIA statistics:

And one study already trashed the claims of the study that said that circumcision reduces HIV.

Washing is not enough, and circumcision is totally useless. He has a yeast infection -- you need to treat the infection (both of you at once!) not chop off part of his penis. You can't wash it away and you can't cut it away.
Yeast infections are just not that hard to treat, but you MUST both be treated at once or you'll pass it back and forth. Use a condom until you are both free of the infection. You can probably get something effective over the counter at your local pharmacy.
Would you chop off your hand for a fungus under your fingernail? No, of course not, you'd treat the infection. This is no different, except that two people are involved.
Circumcision would hurt a lot, make sex less pleasurable for both of you, and probably not even clear up the yeast infection. I think you need to find a competent doctor.

I have never heard of a yeast infection on a man. Your BF should retract the foreskin and wash thoroughly every day. If yeast is hiding there, that should cure it.
I think that uncircumcised is a tiny bit better. However, recovery from the surgery would have to be fairly traumatic. My younger brother was circumcised when he was about 6 and he was miserable. I am sure it would be worse the older you get.

Your story is B.S.
A complete male is less likely to unknowingly "carry" yeast than a "circumcised" male is. A complete penis is very sensitive and he will know within hours that YOU have given him an infection that will drive him crazy. The dry-unfeeling surface of a "circumcised" penis will however hide colonies of yeast in cracks and fissures. "Circumcised" males spread yeast and thrush back and forth between the females they visit.

Circumcision is an outdated concept and nearly useless to boot. If he's fortunate enough to have escaped the birthing room with his foreskin please let him keep it. Ask him to clean himself thoroughly when he showers and check with a medical professional about treatments for candidiasis.

No it does not make sex less pleasurable. But I'm sure people will argue that. He needs to WASH more often especially in this warm weather thats the problem. A little personal hygiene would fix it.
