What was the best sitcom of the 70s? I think All in the Family was the best and The Jeffersons come a close second. Opinions?

Only ones I've watched are, Good Times and The Jeffersons. Between those, I say, The Jeffersons. How come you didn't put Whats Happening in that group?

All in the family, such a groundbreaking show and still gut bustingly funny after 35 years and dozens of viewings. Barney Miller would be my No.2. The others are okay, but mediocre. I would have Sanford and Son on that list.Oh, yes, MASH would be on there too, I almost forgot.Bob Newhart too.And Mary Tyler Moore, then Taxi, and WKRP.

It's a tie between Good Times and The Jeffersons.

Three's Company, then Barney Miller. Good Times got old real fast.

Three's Company and the Jeffersons run a close race in my book.

There is no comparison. Even though I loved "Barney Miller", it was "All in the Family" that set the bar the highest for not just comedies in the 70's, but for all comedies to follow. Next to "I Love Lucy" and maybe "Mash" there was no other comedy show that came close to influencing future comedies.
