By Metallica - i would say any of their first four studio CDs -
Kill Em All - Ride The Lightning - Master of Puppets and also And Justice For All are all great. After that they kinda changed. I still like the newer Metallica, but the older stuff is what made them great.
Godsmack? Ive got several of their CDs, but never really got into them that much.
If you like that kind of music check out Megadeth -
pick up Rust in Peace, Criptic Writings, Countdown to Extinction, or even their newer CDs are pretty damn good. I just got their latest - its called United Abominations and it kicks ***!

I only know Metallica (Master of Puppets).
