I have bad eye strain every time I look at my monitor - a SamSung SyncMAster 912N
I also have 2 Apple Laptop computers that I use occasionally, and in general I don't have trouble when I use the laptops.

I've done about everything I can think of. I went to the eye doctor - they checked me over good, they gave me eye drops and all, I tried new glasses, I tried special computer glasses, actually the monitor is new and I still have tons of trouble, maybe I bought the wrong one. I;ve played with the brightness and the refresh rates, and all that. I've done about everything. I could get a new monitor but I don't know which one I should buy. I bought a anti-radiation - anti glare screen and my eyes still hurt horribly just after short use.

what can I do?

You can try this. Can't gaurantee it will work for you.
On Windows XP -
Right click anywhere on the desktop.
Click Properties.
Click the settings tab.
Click the advanced button.
Click the monitor tab.
Select a higher number for the refresh rate.

Many people who use computers complain of eye strain. Looking at a monitor for a long time can strain your eyes or can make any other problems you are having with your eyes seem more noticeable. Symptoms include:

Eye discomfort
Headaches
Sore, tired, burning or itchy eyes
Difficulty focusing
Watery eyes
Dry eyes
Blurred or double vision
Increased sensitivity to light
Although eye strain can cause discomfort, it usually isn't serious and goes away once you rest your eyes. You may not be able to change the amount of time you’re in front of a computer at work, or the factors that can cause eye strain but you can take steps to reduce it.

When you work at a computer for any length of time, it's common to experience eye strain, blurred vision, red eyes and other symptoms of computer vision syndrome. This is because the visual demands of computer work are unlike those associated with most other activities. If you're under age 40, eye strain or blurred vision during computer work may be due to an inability of your eyes to remain accurately focused on your screen or because your eyes have trouble changing focus from your keyboard to your screen and back again for prolonged periods. These focusing problems often are associated with CVS. One of the most obvious benefits of anti-glare glasses is the ability to reduce strain of the eyes in natural or even artificial light and minimize reflection.

I know how you feel. Remember to look away from the screen every 15 to 20 minutes and focus on something on the other side of the room or out the window, even get up and walk a way from the computer for a few minutes. It really helps.
