joe Liberman is again standing as the lone democrate that is not bowing to pressure to defeat this proposal...the dems are for the most part against this law. harry reid and nancy polosie are afraid this will be racial profiling running amuck.
we are told to report all suspicious activities to authorities. This is especially important in our post 9/11 era. this amendment would protect those who report them.
MINNEAPOLIS – Six Muslim men removed from a plane last fall after being accused of suspicious behavior are suing the airline and threatening to sue the passengers who complained – a move some fear could discourage travelers from speaking up when they see something unusual. in reaction to the imams' lawsuit, Congress has taken steps to legally protect passengers who report suspicious activity. Earlier this week, the House approved an amendment to a rail transportation security bill that would make passengers immune from such lawsuits, unless they say something they know is false.

People should be able to report suspicious behavior without fear of a lawsuit that even if they win will cost thousands upon thousands of dollars. If the authorities determine someone is innocent of the suspicious behavior, they have lost no money defending themselves. In the case of the Imams, a number of passengers stated early on that they believed they were acting suspicious on purpose in order to get reported so they could stir emotions and file lawsuits. It isnt worth the risk. I wouldnt report anything if I thought I could get sued.

Yes, please do call your senators and ask them to vote against this bill.

Maybe when someone reports you for discretely looking in your purse for a completely innocent reason... but to some paranoid stranger, you're acting suspicious and you have your life totally halted and turned upside down for a few days, then you'll understand that Reid and Polosie have a valid point.

It's a shame that we have resorted to such extreme measures out "fear propaganda", intended to get us to freely allow our freedoms to be limited. Let's keep it realistic and report the guy with the stick of dynamite when he pulls out the match to light it.

Additional: This did not happen to me, but it has to others. My point is, before we jump on the "fear bandwagon", we need to have a little checks and balances of our actions. Caution and watchful is one thing, but paranoia is another. From what I hear and see, our actions are based much more on fear and paranoia than on logic and reason. And, what's worse is that's what we're being told to do with media hype and bills like this one.

Reporting suspicious activities are not like or considered to be defamatory or racist...there by making it virtually impossible to be sued for.

I also believe racial profiling has been around way before the so-called civilized society we live in today.

Lawsuits like this will not prevail due to freedom of speech.

You can't sue someone if they legitimately believe they are reporting you with good intentions, so why do we need this bill?

Lieberman is not a Democrat. He lost the primary, and ran under his own party.

And the bill is redundant because anyone acting in good faith is already protected under existing laws.
