I work at a Daycare and I get maternity leave from the time I'm 8 months pregnant until my baby is 3 months old. I've been told this is a really generous leave. It's paid maternity leave, I'll be getting minimum wage for the standard 50 hour week I worked before.
Good yah?

That is VERY generous--most are 3 months tops, and most are unpaid.
If it is paid, it's paid for up to 2-3 weeks, using your vacation and sick time, and unpaid for the rest of it.

Well, that doesn't seem to generous to me. I live in Canada and we get 1 year off, with about 60% of our pay every two weeks for the whole year. I made about $650 a month before I took maternity leave (worked part time) and got $480 a month on maternity.
I don't get why everyone thinks this is generous, your baby will practically still be a newborn when you go back to work. Luckily I could stay home and not worry about it.

I can't answer your question but I wanted to say congrats on your baby boy. That's a very generous maternity leave for you. The time will go by quickly but enjoy each & every day with your new baby. :)

Congrats on your baby! :) That is a long mat. leave. Typically, youa re allowed by law (with no pay) 3 months, but most of the time, employers expect you back after about 6 weeks (when the OB has OK'd you to go back!)

Congrats! Unpaid maternity leave is common. Paid maternity leave is almost unheard of! That's a great deal!

For the US, thats a great deal!! Many companies don't offer paid maternity leave. Legally, they don't have to. However, they can't fire you for being pregnant or taking time off. Lucky you!
