I think like what Ben said here, it's really going to depend mostly on size, and another huge factor is going to be african or south american? Generally speaking, but not always, the South American's are slightly more peaceful oriented then the Africans. Gourami's certainly are not going to go about eating Cichilds or thier fry, that really isn't their nature. What you're probably going to see is once the chichlid in the young ones set in, aggression, especially in a smaller tank, begin to set in. My opinion is basically if you had like a solo Mbuna or any Malawi, small or not, it's just a matter of time before it figures out who he is and who they are and he decided to "assert" himself. Some speices are relentless as I found the hard way with my Tropheus Dubosi, three gourami later.
All in all Ben is right, you might get away with it for awhile, it's just a matter of time before you see stress and deaths though. Will be more rapid in a smaller tank.

Only until you start to have problems. The Cichlids will eventually show aggression towards the Gouramis. When this happens, the Cichlids need to be removed. Also, make sure you don't have Gouramis that get too big to eat the babies.

I have a tank with all cichlids (firemouth, convict, electric blue, electrict yellow, jack dempsy, ect.) and one gourami. The firemouth is on her fouth batch of babies and I have not had any problems. The gourami has been in this tank for over a year now. I may be just lucky though, but they all seem to get along fine. There is also a bala shark in with them.

Depends on what kind of cichlids and how small they are. Maybe, maybe not. Not enough info.
Remember, cichlids are very parental and the babies usually do just fine with the parents in the main tank. Just a thought.

You really need to be careful with that, cichlids have a tendency to be aggressive even if they are babies and since gouramis have flowwing fins, the cichlids might bother them and bite their fins.

Yes, but only for a short period of time. I often use my gourami tank as a sick bay for the beaten up cichlids. Once the recovering fish begins to chase them, it is time for them to go back to the big tank.

how small, gouramies will eat small baby fish, but again it depends on the size of the baby fish.

As long as you have lots of hiding spaces they should be ok.
Almost all fish will eat fry if given the chance, but you can minimize that if you have lots of hiding spaces for the fry.
