Wouldn't that mean my tax dollars would go to pay for obesity related illnesses just cause someone is to lazy to loose the weight? I got nothing against fat people i just seems unfair that i have to pay for something u brought on yourself. The same thing with smokers. What do u think?

I hope you realize that if you have any kind of health insurance you are ALREADY paying for these things. Do you think those companies just take it on the nose when they have a loss? They pass the costs on to YOU. Even if your employer pays for it, that's still money they might have otherwise given to you in wages.

There is nothing wrong with nationalized healthcare if it's done right. It does mean that healthy people have to chip in a bit to pay for sick people, but one never knows when one is going to become sick. It's true that many people create their own diseases by an unhealthy lifestyle, but that can be addressed. A lot of people have stopped smoking, though it's difficult, and a lot of obese people are working to lose weight. Certainly it's ridiculous that hospitals are turning away truly sick people because they have no money, or that poor people stay sick, spreading disease, because they are afraid of the cost of health care.

Well, if you mate with someone who carries the gene for diabetes, i guess your kid can just die, okay? Deal?

My uncle has medicare now and just got healthcare for the first time in years. Gee, the doc who looked at his bladder tumors said we can't fix these because your kidneys are shutting down, why didn't you get this done sooner? "Um, cause I have no money for health care." Okay, and about your heart disease, why do you still have that? "Um, because they wanted 100K cash before they'd start a bypass. I don't have that." Gee, now Mr nothing against fat people, now you are coughing up more than a million for my uncle's health care, when it coulda been a small amount to deal with his original problems.

This is an absurd, sadistic system befitting a cruel and stupid people. Is that what we are?

SOcialized medicine was good enough for me when I was growing up as a military dependent, and it's good enough for all of us. In fact, if you go see Sicko, you will see that it's a darned sight better than the profit based system we are being tortured with now.

Regarding smoking, this addictive substance, whose addict iveness was knowingly boosted by the bastards at the tobacco companies (just good capitalists, eh?) is openly advertised, aggresively promoted, and for many older smokers, was literally shoved down their gullets. In this crazy system, where two legal drugs kill hundreds of thousands of people a year, and marijuana, which kills no one, can result in decades of imprisonment, yeah, let's punish the victims of corporate malfeasance.

Mental health coverage, anyone?

I think it's the opposite - the people who pay in and die before they can collect as much as they paid support the ones who live the longest. That's the same thing that keeps Social Security going - some folks die before they retire, and never draw a dime. But more importantly, you should examine your reasons for resenting the idea of contributing to the health care of your fellow citizens.

You basically already do. How do you think the insurance companies determine your premiums? Uninsured, high risk, and non payees are all factored in. Same goes for the hospitals. So you'd rather keep paying unreasonably high health costs, giving the insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and hospitals huge profits? Studies have shown that what you would pay in increase federal taxes would be much much less than what you are currently paying in insurance monthly premiums.

Money would go to all sorts of behavior related issues. There would also be rationed care/waiting lines for procedures etc. The good news is that we would still have doctors because all of the ones that came here to escape socialized medicine have no where else to go.

Perhaps, but there are many illnesses that are preventable and if people had access to health care BEFORE they got really sick, there would be a lot less money spent on trying to cure them after the fact.

Not only do tax payers get to pay for alcolohism, obesity and many of the other ills but the resources of health care now get "evenly" distributed to those people too. So now those too lazy to quit smoking, exersize or diet get to take resources from those who might be dying of cancer, those in need of life saving surgeries, and the like. Remember when people are really ill do they ask - can I go to Canada, Cuba or Western Europe for care? No they ask if they go to the USA. Our system is the best in the world and they know it; and the government wants to get bigger by owning it.

Its impossible for you all to have, you would have to restructure the wages of the entire medical industry and I am sure the doctors in upstate NY that are raping the country blind are already complaining they don't get paid enough...
What if you regulated their wages... I can guarantee these guys give allot of money to politics and that is never going to happen until USA takes a president on honesty and not how much money he put behind his campaign.
