Yes I agree it does make me think of Jacobs Ladder, but it's really not that bad considering. I mean kids in school are going to find something to tease you about no matter what your name is, so it might as well be cool like Jacobs Ladder, maybe he'll end up with the nickname ladder, not the worst thing that could happen.
If you like Jacob go with it.

Yeah, it really does. How about Jason, Jackson, Jayden, Jarod, or even Jagger, etc. if you really want a J name? I really like Kyle Jayden.
