COULD BE A LOT OF THINGS BUT IF IT IS STILL THE ORIGINAL FUEL PUMP I HAVE MANY OF THEM HAVE THE SMALL RUBBER HOSE HAVE A TEAR IN IT FROM AGE AND IF THAT IS THE CASE REPLACE THE COMPLETE PUMP ASSEMBLY.

YOU SHOULD GET THE VEHICLES COMPUTER SCANNED AND CHECK FOR ANY PROBLEMS AS WELL AS CODES AND THEN YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD IDEA ON WHAT THE PROBLEM TRULY IS.

TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE SERVICE.

LEAVE IT THERE WITH THEM SO THAT THEY CAN FIND THE PROBLEM FOR YOU, IT WILL BE A LOT BETTER THAN JUST REPLACING PART AFTER PART AND NOT DOING ANY GOOD.

could be the pump, could be the air filter is plugged, and could be the exhaust pipe is plugged. I found that last problem on a 1968 caddy. The exhaust gasses cut behind the metal in a bend of the pipe, but did not cut through the pipe. It made a small flap that eventually flipped sideways and plugged the pipe. The car would start, idle for a few seconds then die. If I mashed the gas, it died quicker.

The previous answer is the way to go, but I'd check the fuel pressure first before replacing the fuel filter, especially if it is in a hard to reach area.

have the fuel pressure check to make sure the pump is working properly or it could be a sensor good luck.
