Wow lots of questions. Luckily we just got back from California, so I should be able to remember most of this.

1. You can use iPods, etc. during the flight, but all electronics must be off during take-off and landing. Can't have cell phones on at all.

2. • Bring a couple new paperbacks. They're lightweight and easy to store in a carry-on.
• A great game for on the plane is "Shut the Box". It's a numbers game with 2 dice, and it's small enough for your carry-on. (See the link below.)
• Are you into those Sudoku puzzles? I'm not, but I hear they're addictive, and that would keep you occupied for a while. Or now would be a good time to get into them.
• With your own headphones, you'll be able to hear the movies too. We flew Delta, and they showed current movies (We flew 2-3 weeks ago, and they showed Premonition and Blades of Glory.) So you never know, you may like the movie.
• If you don't already have one, buy a new laptop and you'll have Y!A all the way there & back, and not go into withdrawal. There ya go, problem solved! (j/k)

3. In economy class, you don't get full meals anymore (although it sounds like you're going overseas, so for a longer flight you probably will; I don't know.) My favorite snacks that I bring are bagels w/cream cheese. Also packages of cheese&crackers or PB&crackers. Good for protein and not much sugar.

4&6. I'm not the one to ask for time zone advice. I'm still on California time after two weeks! But my boss travels overseas a lot, and I've heard him say to sleep when the locals sleep and stay awake when they are (as long as possible).

5. See #2! and good luck; have a safe flight!

They allow game boys ect once the plane is in the air but not on takeoff or landing.

To while the time away take some mind puzzles like suduko and some magazines to read. A good book or even a wheres wally book to keep you amused.

Dont eat the plane food whatever you do but take something that is allowed on the plane for yourself.

Adjust your watch as soon as the trip begins and make sure you get some sleep time when you arrive at your destination.

If you are going to be in an enclosed space for a long time I would make sure not to get the attention of any small child around me as you seem to get allocated as the cruise director or amusement coordinator for that child for the entire trip. If you have long hair wear it up or any small child will spend the entire trip pulling your hair. I would make certain that you get up and walk around every now and then to stretch your legs. Wear comfortable clothes that will not cause you to overheat. I also noticed on my last trip that many people seem to travel in thongs or as americans call them flip flops. I thought that was silly as I know that if I was in a plane crash I would want strong shoes on my feet.

I would apply all of the above for the trip home.

I'm pretty sure gameboys and stuff are allowed when they tell you you can turn them on.
I would suggest sleep or get some books to read.
Airplane food is decent not the best but not completely inedible either.. i stick to sandwiches and stuff like that.
Set a clock into the time zone that you will be going to, try to sleep in the same general time, if needed take a 1-2hr nap to keep yourself up until evening, don't worry if you go to sleep a little early or late in a few days you'll have it down.
Read and sleep
I'd probably follow the exact same procedures on my return trip.

yes they do allow ipods and gameboys. but you have to wait like 10 minutes after take off and turn it off 10 minutes before landing. (it has to do with interfering navigation system) if you cant sleep, read a book or listen to an ipod or manicure your nails. every once in a while get up and walk down the aisle. or if you like to draw or sew do that. or take a labtop. airplane food is okay...it depends on the airline. the snacks are good and you get beverages alot. You get used to the time zone. i always go overseas every year. i just got back to the states yesterday. my flight was like 9 hours. my timing is off but in a few days ill be back to normal. i watched movies, tried to sleep and listened to my ipod. or i would take cards and play with myself
