It's all an illusion, misdirection, smoke and mirrors. It's pretty damn tough to be at "war" with a country in which you are trying to install a democratic form of government. People seem to skip right over the fact that those two objectives are at opposite ends of the sanity spectrum. If this administration can make you believe they aren't opposed to each other, you have achieved your objective and the illusion is complete, you can now do what you wish, and they have. Hundreds of millions being spent, defense contractors in hog heaven, civilian workers by the thousands, para-military Blackwater USA protecting important businessmen and protecting the flow of materials. What's not to like? VP Cheney pulling every string, calling in every favor advancing his personal agenda which includes his mistress, Halliburton. If we are truly at war with Iraq, we would have wiped them off the face of the map in a month. If we are honest with ourselves, our troops are being sacrificed for something and it isn't to make Iraq a democracy. For me this is worse than Vietnam. Let's not forget the new giant embassy we are building in Baghdad. Do you think we are leaving that unprotected?

Well, hmmm, I don't know.....

There are Iraqis dying over there - not at our hand- and there are almost constant terrorist acts costing not only lives, but vast property damage as well.

Most of the oilfields aren't even functioning due to this and the Iraqi government itself is bankrupt and can't correct the situation by themselves....

So....

I would say, it makes no difference. Either way, the country itself and the people themselves are benefiting.

If American business wants to set themselves up over there amid the turmoil, they are doing so at a huge risk and if, our military wants to stay over there and protect American interests abroad, while simultaneously aiding the country in its overall reconstruction, I have no problem with that.

Better us than Ahmadinejad and his fascist brood.

Not only but they do protect the contractors and big business interests. That, after all, is why we don't leave.

I can tell you this much, our troops are not in Iraq to protect this Country...

Fact is...Bin Laden is responsible for the 9-11 attacks and will be responsible for the next attacks in our Country.

Our troops should have been sent to Afghanistan to kill the ppl responsible for the attacks on our Country.

Well when they first started being shipped there, it was to provide security from violence and oil well bombings, right now, i think it is a little bit of this, and a little bit of that.

But mainly to provide security so the Iraq government can write up and pass the "divvy up the oil" law.

No.
If this is this what you think, that's sad to have to live in a country you believe would sacrifice our young soldiers for only economic reasons. Sad, indeed.

You should try getting informed before asking questions. If you were informed then you would know the answer to this question already. Which is no.
