I have lost 2 children. One a few hours after he was born and a daughter when she was 6 weeks old and I am still their Mother. So comming from painful experience, you should use the term Mother.

Not a name for it. It isn't natural, no parent should bury their child. Losing a parent is the way it should be, just hopefully after you have had many years with them. And usually one spouse does die sooner than the other. But you never expect to lose a child. My Aunt was 57 when she died of cancer, it still devastated my 85 year old Grandmother. It is too sad to come up with a name for.

For your book you may want to use "bereaved mother"

I would think the woman has suffered enough, even though the child has died, she has not lost the right to be called mother. A woman does not go back to Miss when divorced or widowed.
I would call that woman devastated and hope that society didn't come up with a word to strip her of being a mother simply because fate did.

I think you still call her a mother. If she went through the pain of carrying a child and delivering it, she deserves to be called a mother. Why not call her the loving mother of an angel? Pax -C

Wow- good point. I'm really not sure if there even is one. You have a star from me, though, so I'll be checking back...
