My 2 grandsons aged 4 and 2 are uncircumcized and I notice they have trouble controlling their stream when urinating, sometimes peeing all over the bathroom. Both their father (my son-in-law) and I are uncircumcized also, but I don't recall when or how my foreskin was retracted.

Before puberty. A study in Europe found that almost all can slide it before puberty.

Also, are you sure it's not just bad aim? They seem pretty young, and aiming can still be hard if they do it standing up at that age. I mention that because if it was the foreskin, they wouldn't pee all over the bathroom floor. A long foreskin would cause a stream to spray a little perhaps, but not aim that bad.

The foreskin shouldn't cause a bad aim unless it's really long. I usually don't slide mine back and my stream is just fine.

You guys should look into that. I think they're fine and it's just their aim. Have them practice it.

In many boys the foreskin is retractable by age 3. In some boys it might not be retractable until he's about to start puberty. And, while rare, some guys can't retract their foreskins until almost the end of puberty. Each guy develops at a different rate and it's a bad idea to force a foreskin to go back when it doesn't want to.

You can try to gently retract their foreskins to see if it can go back, but if you meet any resistance you should stop immediately, as to continue could cause scarring and make things really bad. I'm going to bet that, at their age, their foreskins aren't fully retractable yet. If they're having trouble controlling their stream of urine, they should just learn to adapt, it's not that hard.

The link might provide some useful info.

They are too young to have their foreskins retract -- usually that happens between the ages of 5 and 10, although in some cases it is 18 or even a bit later.

They probably think it's amusing to pee all over the bathroom. Help them to understand how "big boys" aim. But they may just not be tall enough to hit the toilet while standing up. The little one might still need to use a potty chair with a deflector.

This too will pass!

You should help them get the cream so there will be less pain for them. Talk to your doctors.
