I mean, I know Pooh and friends are not the norm and I don't look like the "tattoo type", but I do remember getting them!

No, its funny! They seem so surprised and just have to tell me I have them and I laugh. And yes, I got them to be looked at. I am the last person to get an attitude, believe me!

maybe they just want a conversational ice-breaker ....

and sometimes scrape the bottom of the 'inspration ' barrel.

Lots of us don't have depth of interpersonal skills and have
to use "the obvious" to begin a convo.

Waaaay back when I got a tattoo, I sorta planned it to have it
covered by my shirt ...

and really!! who *forgets* getting a tattoo?

when a beautiful woman hears "geeeze, you're beautiful"
for the gazillionth time d'you supppose she asks a similar
question?

It's human nature...it's like someone walking up on you when you're changing a flat tire and asking you, "got a flat tire?" What are they thinking? Of course you got a flat tire..why, did you stop the car along the freeway just to rotate your tires? It seems crazy, but we often ask an obvious question in order to bring up a specific topic. Your tummy growls and someone asks you if you're hungry; you got 6 inches of hair cut off your head and you look like you just joined the Marine Corps and what do they ask? "Did you get a haircut?"

The same reasoning/unnecessary questioning often accompanies tatoos, piercings, broken arms...you name it...as if you didn't already know.

Yeah, like when someone says "You've got a massive mole on your face" (I haven't, i'm just using it as an example) Do you think that you have once seen the mole in the mirror after the however many years that you've been alive.
It really is rather annoying when people state the obvious.

haha...an asstattoo!!
oh my...

people are idiots and very judgemental. don't worry about it.

...I have tattoos, too, and I don't look the part....I do love watching their faces when they find out I have them....hard to hide their reaction...although tattoos are becoming more and more acceptable, there is still some "stigma" associated with them that they are an "off the wall" thing to do....

I guess they think you got drunk one night and can't remember what you did the night before. And by the way there is no "tattoo type" anymore. There are librarians out there with tats. Big deal.

for some reason, they have a image in their head of what a tattoo person looks like. they are usually shocked when that person doesn't match that image. btw, i love tats. i have a few myself.

Maybe they like them and feel compelled to comment on them.

If you didn't want your tatoos to attract attention, why did you get them? You seem to resent that people notice them enought to comment on them, but isn't that the point?
