That is why the American media is worse than useless. It has become a gossip magazine, with the occaisional HIDEOUSLY opinionated political story thrown in, or "human interest" rubbish and absolutely nothing about the outside world. Talk about dumbing down - you'd have to smarten up to give news worthy of primates for most American news agencies. That goes for all of them - CNN to Fox.
American news? Don't even bother. Read the Scotsman, the Times, The independent, the Guardian, even the Telegraph - a decent British newspaper. Get your news from the BBC, channel 4 (UK) or direct from Reuters - though I'm sure there are lots of good non-UK sources. Unless you want to continue to live in a world where a woman who is famous for NOT BEING FAMOUS - Paris Hilton, for the uninitiated - is more important than the situation in Palestine, or stem cell research, or elections in places that aren't the US - or ANYTHING which people should be worried or care about.
*edit* CNN is for democrats? Well I suppose it may well be, Fox certainly is for Republicans at any rate. Personally I prefer a true left-wing source such as the Independent or the Guardian (newspapers) rather than the moderate conservatism (democrats? liberal? get real - look at European parties) of 'democrat' news sources.

I totally agree, there is more important things, going on in this world, without having to hear about celebrities, and as far as breaking news, I guess they do it because their really are some people, probably more than not that actually want to keep hearing about these celebrities, and as long as their is interest in these type of stories, the media, will be all over it.
Have a good evening.

I know, I agree!! It's sad our world thinks "Paris is in jail or Lindsay arrested- AGAIN" is news. We need to talk about more important issues like our war overseas and global warming!!

Good question. Rick Springfield was postponed on a morning show because they were talking about Lindsay Lohan. They apologized to him and he was very nice about it-but geez-where is the judgment?

my take on it is that "celebrity news" is NOT news. the problem is that news entertainment is changing society's perception of what 'news' actually is. Example: Paris out of jail = NOT news. Natural disaster devastates region of country = News. Get it?

yes it is very sad. But for the REAL news you can watch BBC, or if you are able to watch international channels. They talk more about real issues than which celebrity got a new puppy.

Yes, but if you stop talking about things, they sometimes go away. Don't buy products from companies that advertise in these outlets and turn off the tv.
