At first I thought, the newer the better. But a friend told me that construction in the 60s and 70s tended to be somewhat stronger because nowadays builders use a lot of particle board and cut corners. Also, I think the 30s-50s were probably also a bad time for home construction due to the scarcity of materials and the sharp increase in demand. I don't really know much about home construction, so I'm interested in your opinion if you do.

Thanks for any help!

Homes are not like 'fine wines'. You can find shoddy construction in any period in which houses were constructed.

Particle board (OSB and similar) are quality materials which are long lasting and should not be considered 'corner cutting'.

You are advised to, rather than search based upon age of the structure, check the QUALITY of the structure. A good professional home inspector can point out to you how well constructed a property is.

As well, he can spot a home in which materials used were of minimal or dubious quality.

Don't restrict your search to age of structure alone.
