Say what they mean...I understand it better! Sometimes an analogy can get lost in translation!

I think a little of each is in order. Clearly expressing yourself is the way to get your message across. Sometimes an analogy is much easier to understand than a statement of facts that is clear to you but might not be to your audience. Always consider the target audience when chosing your words.
