do you take people at face value only to get burned in the end?

I think I am a pretty good judge of character. Some I take at face value, and some I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw them. (Not very far)

Most of those I have chosen to trust have been trustworthy.
The ones who weren't, have only disappointed me once.
It is unfortunate but we must be self protective in order to survive.

If you have a doubt about someone, ask them to tell you about themselves. When they tell you, BELIEVE them. Don't waste time trying to change them.

Life is too short, and there are more than enough honest, faithful souls in the world. People we can love and trust, and who will love and trust us. We don't need to invite disaster in search of acceptance.

Nope, though I appear to be a very trusting person I am not. I'm actually rather suspicious of people's motives. Perhaps I am jaded? So its more the other way around because I never take someone at face value.

No as my motto is trust no one. Sad but past experience makes me very careful and truly I am very picky with who I associate with.
