The prewound bobbins I have used from my dealer look like they are coats & clark. They have cardboard sides that must be removed to be used. I want to purchase more, at a lesser price than the dealer wants! Any suggestions?

The prewound bobbins you describe are specifically used for machine embroidery and not for regular sewing or quilting. You are better off buying a quality brand of thread (e.g. Gutterman or Mettler) and winding your own if you don't want to buy the same prewounds from the dealer. Considering the high price of a Pfaff 2170, the cost of good thread is nothing.

It will be really hard to get the right bobbin to fit your machine. Plus Coats is a really weak thread. Use good thread like Gutermanns, and go ahead and wind your own. It only takes a second.
