Current theory says the sperm can survive "several days" waiting for Ms. egg to show up. In this case, a douche might be effective birth control, by killing the sperm. "Several days" is sometimes described as about 3 or 4; the rythm method for avoiding pregnancy suggests that you leave more than 5 days between unafe sex and projected ovulation. This is also known as "Vatican Roulette".

If the egg is there waiting, conception can happen almost the same time sperm finds the egg - a few minutes or less.

Current theory says if there are no sperm when the egg descends, it dies almost immediately; it does not wait around very long for late-comers, so to speak.

It depends really, a sperm can fertilize the egg in a matter of minutes which would lead to conception in around 5 to 10 days. However if you are not ovulating during intercourse and sperm can live up to 5 days inside you, it could be anywhere from 10 to 15 days before the fertilized egg implants in your uterine wall.

The sperm travel up the fallopian tube and join with the egg. That can be considered conception and it can take a few hours. Then the fertilized ovum travels to the uterus and implants. That's when pregnancy is established. That can take a day or two.

some sperm have been found that lived longer than 3 days because of a womens body chemistry having less acid in it than usual so really it can happen within minutes or a few days after, there's no real way to pinpoint it since everyone has different genetic makeup..

It depends on when you ovulate. You get pregant from sperm that is in the uterus when you release an egg (ovulate). Sperm lives about three days inside the body.
