it doesn't seem to give them an advantage, probally a disadvantage. They test for them now like in the NHL, NFL, UFC.... but I think let it go. Ricky Williams was good, so he smokes a little weed. Nick Diaz (UFC) MMA Fighter another. Thoughts?

NO! Marijuana is not a performance enhancing drug. In fact, as you pointed out, it may even be a disadvantage. Unless a player is CONVICTED of a criminal offense, the leagues should have no right to pry into their personal lives.

Personally I think the whole Ricky Williams thing was a JOKE. A whole to-do over nothing. It was only a big deal because the NFL made it one. Are these athletes role models, yes. However, they are still individuals living in America and should be allowed to live thier lives as they see fit. In the even that someone does get convicted, though, I see no problem with teams having policies against their players continuting to play for them. But they should leave the police work up to the police.

Yes, we have an epidemic of well-known sports figures doing very stupid things recently. They need to be tested for all illegal substances. The image of professional sports has gone from honorable to looking like a big gang only out for themselves at the expense of others. It seems their abusive lifestyles were developed by watching gangster and mafia movies. Where were their parents when they were developing their life philosophies? It seems no one taught them right from wrong. Becoming a public figure requires the understanding that you have the responsibility to demonstrate integrity. Almost every sport is having a scandal, steroids, tax evasion, drugs, murder, dog fighting, and so much more. Excusing people because they are good at a sport, or anything else, just tells them what they have done is acceptable to the rest of us. We need to let them know this is totally unacceptable.

ALL athletes should be tested for ALL illegal drugs.

These athletes are being paid for what they do. Organizations will pay them millions of dollars to perform at a certain level. Using illegal drugs prohibits that. They are also in a sense a roll model for the younger generation, like it or not. What kind of message is that sending to the kids? Not a very good one, in my opinion.

Besides, I bet the player smokin' weed would feel pretty bad if they paralyzed or killed another player while on the drug, or if they, themselves, became paralyzed - when it could have been totally prevented.
