I'm 16 and I love to read. I've recently gotten interested in classic literature from the Victorian Era, such as Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, although I've only actually read Alice in Wonderland. I want to find a good novel from the 19th century, so what is your opinion on Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? What are some other good fiction novels from the 19th century?

Henry James A Portrait of a Lady is one of my favorites. However I think Dracula is the best Victorian era novel because of the way it depicts Mina Harker - the Victorian Era's "New Woman". Pax -C+

Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility. They're classics for a reason. They're not as boring as they sound (except P & P is pretty slow for quite some time). Try Dracula or the Count of Monte Cristo (loved it), Robinson Crusoe.

P.S. - I have no idea if these are "Victorian" but they seem about right to me.

Try most of Dickens works. He was, after all, a Victorian Era novelist and his "A Christmas Carol" is a good look at Christmas in Victorian England.

East of Eden by John Steinback. Long, but very good. You'd like it, very descriptive of the period in which it is set.
