honestly..Why it is so great to have sex at the ages of 9-16. I know what it feels like. I've Got to daughters! But I would like to know ..why do you think its something you need to do? Is it for peer pressure?? For self esteem?? What?? I can remember when I was 5 or 6 years old and AIDS was first being talked about. It was all over the news and then you had the singers who would sing about having protected sex, "Salt-n-pepper" I think is what they are called?? And for me just a few years ago, sleeping around was considered cool, but to me it just seemed too stupid. There are just too many risk involved. Between all of the STDs and getting pregnant. Why would you want to run that risk and ruin your childhood?? Why?? I was SO scared to death of that happening to me. So I waited...not until I was married. But until I knew I could handle the responsibilites. Can you explain it better to me?? Seriously and Honestly. Not just crappy answers?? (And I'm only 26!!)

you know ive seen answers from ..its nature..fun..to peer pressure...to curious...Don't you think everyone is curious. Not many of you that have answered have sounded like this..but it seems like teenagers find an excuse for not thinking about their actions. I'm serious! As a teenager I made some stupid mistakes, and I had extremely strict parents. However that didn't make me want to run out and have sex! Its all in how you think.. And I guess I have to realize that teenagers just want to have fun and screw(no pun intended) the consequences..........

I don't know if I can give you an answer really, because I completely agree with you! I think part of it is peer pressure- not in the way of friends actually pressuring you to lose your virginity, but just this general idea that it's the "normal" thing to do, and everyone wants to be normal...
Fortunately, I do think more teenagers are taking waiting seriously. It's not that weird to see a girl wearing a purity ring anymore. And for those who do have sex, more are being smart about protection. It's pretty easy to come by now. But there will always be someone who forgets "in the heat of the moment" and ends up with a serious problem.

Speakingas an older guy...
It's hormones. Guys are interested in only one thing (well, 2 if you count oral sex separately). They will say or do anything to get it. it feels great and satisfies a primal urge.
OTOH, guys are scared of emotions, probably more so than girls. They can see they start to have attachments, they try to deny them, they try to pull away and stay aloof, stay cool. That's a lot of the "he didn't call the next day" thing - they are scared of an entaglement, but that night was good.
Girls, I think (I don't know) seem to get attached to some guy. They want to hook him, and nowadays that means sex. (I mean really, nowadays, what 14-yo guy is going date the same girl and wait until they're 22 and graduated college and married to get it on?)
So guys want sex but not the attachments until they're ready. Girls equate sex with attachment. Danger!
I think it's an extremely fun and relatively harmless pastime. The catch is that human beings are designed to attach emotions to sex. (After all, the guy is done in a few minutes. Evolution gave us emotions so he sticks around to feed mama and baby, too.)
Listen to the songs today, or the last 50 years or more; very few are about sex; most are about the joy of getting to gether, or the heartache of breaking up.
I think that's the danger most kids miss - sex messes more with your mind than with your body. You can give kids all kinds of awards they didn't earn, you can monkey with grades so everyone is "above average" - but ultimately, you can't make someone love you if they don't want to; you can mess up your life pretending to feel something you don't; you eventually have to decide big things about your own life... You have to learn about life, winning, losing...
Of course, many adults are not ready for life and love either.

it's ok as long as you use protection. it's not something that i need to do as it is something that just happens. it's a sign of trust and how committed the other person is in the relationship. if they don't want to have sex and the other does than that basically means that they can't agree and it won't work. i blame our parents and the hippie revolution of the past. i don't run the risk, i use protection. and i have never had any problems or diseases between my girl friend and me. i new i had never had any and i knew she was a virgin so there was no chance.

I guess because they want to act cool. I'm 14, and the idea doesn't really appeal to me. I know, there are tons of risks: getting STDs, giving STDs, getting pregnant!!! Maybe kids want to try to prove themselves to older teenagers, or maybe they want the pleasure; maybe they are pressured by their g/bfriend. Knowledge is power. For people who know about all the risks and such, I don't think they really have much of a desire. Educate your daughters on the subject; they will appreciate it later!

im 16...and i totally agree with you. I am waiting till marriage, no earlier. i have better things to do with my life than sleep around and get pregnant or what have you. Not every teen is like taht. I know a lot of people at my school that are still virgins...i know this cuz we talk about stuff like taht.

I find that it is really hard for teenagers and pre-teens not to. Mostly because teachers themselves are beginning to promote it. I've had an outside view of the public school system and see why they do what they do. Why should they act any different than their teachers?
Personally, I hate what the world has become. It has changed so much in my 19 years of life, and it has only gone downhill...

i guees it's so important for kids between 12-18 because when kids first hear about sex and how it can be fun , i think that's what makes them want to go out a try it for themeselves. I'm 12 and i sometimes think about sex and other things realated to that. im hoping to have sex around the age of 15 or 16, and im of course gonna use comdoms.
