this is what i feel about all the steroid hoopla . 2 words , willie mays ! i think that a ball player with a father like Bobby " u.s. " Bonds and a GODFATHER like Willie Mays was brought up in such a way that the mere thought of doing steroids would never enter his mind or that if it did that the teachings of these two men , let alone the baseball community in which he was exposed to as a child , would never allow him to seriously consider doing so . i can relay a bunch of logical jargon that can make a person think differently , if only for a moment , but to impugne Barry's character in such a way is to impugne the character of some of the best ball players that ever played the game .

all im trying to say is that in todays world of professional sports it doesnt matter what or how you get to where you are going but instead how much money you can make for those that built todays professional world , not for the entertainment and well being of our fans but for the money only . who can blame one man for doing performance enhancing drugs when the penalty for not following the herd is to be labled as one who does ? what if , by chance , Barry never has done any drugs , and the negative publicity is because he hasnt instead of because he has . wouldnt , if in the long run hes considered clean , it have hurt our beloved sport , and all the true fans , more by some of us arguing a point for arguments sake or because we let our racial views get in the way of a matter that has no truth unless we make the truth ?

I would not blame society for Barry's drug use. I'd say that the pattern of peer pressure was what he got caught up in because of everyone having a chance to beat the single season HR record.

Bobby and Willie were born and disciplined into old fashioned values, which were tons more stringent than what this generation is experiencing. If only the old ways were still the only way to learn.....

You are so right on!! The two main men in his life are such historic ICONS and are men of such incredible integrity, that the only reason why America hates him is because the "white" MEDIA has villified him. Growing up with those two men as his role models taught Barry a lot about racism, simply because of the things that Bobby and Willie Mays had to go through. So when he became famous on his own merit he knew how racist the media is and had no respect for them at all,and of course he gets painted as a jerk and cheater in the eyes of the media. Think about this, black men tend to get bigger as they get older....

I WISH Barry was as decent and honest as Willie Mays. Mays was always charming and dignified. Barry, even as a rookie, was ill-mannered and unpopular with his teammates.

He didn't learn that behavior from Willie Mays!!!

All I can say is "I hope he breaks the record & keeps on going," and "Any one for 800 Home-runs!?!?"
