It's a math problem that relates to solving the average number. For instance: A History classroom has 22 students who normally attend class. This week there where some students were marked tardy. 4 students were tardy on Monday, 2 were marked tardy on Tuesday, 7 students were marked tardy on Wednesday, and 6 students were marked tardy on Thursday and Friday. What is the average number of students who were marked tardy this week?

4,2,7,6,6

Mean = Total of items divided by the number of items
Median = Middle Value
Mode = Most Common
Range = How far from the smallest to the biggest

Mean = 5 (the average)
Median =6 (the middle vale 2,4, 6 ,6,7
Mode = 6 (6 occurs twice, all others just once)
Range = 5 (7 - 2)

The arithmetic mean is the same thing as the average. So if it asks you to find the average, add up the total number of students tardy, and then divide by the total number of days.

4+2+7+6+6=25
25/5=5 students tardy per day

Average = mean = 25/5 = 5
