splendid choice! Cuthbert is a distinguished and honourable name, so much nicer than many of the modern choices people saddle their offspring with these days
St Cuthbert of Lindisfarne (c. 634–20 March 687) was an Anglo-Saxon monk and bishop in the Kingdom of Northumbria which at that time included, in modern terms, north east England and south east Scotland as far as the Firth of Forth. Afterwards he became one of the most important medieval saints of England, with widespread recognition in the places he had been in Scotland.
Cuthbert is regarded as the patron saint of Northumbria.

I admit it does sound like an old name but if it has some important significance to you, then it's a special name. Maybe it's not just the right name for that particular baby boy, but that's okay. Keep throwing names out there for her to choose from---who knows, maybe she'll research "Cuthbert" a little more and find out its something she actually wants to name her new son! Good luck!

Rediculous. It's just too archaic.
There is one Cuthbert where I teach, he insists on being called Bert becasue he hates his name so much. The other kids just destroy him becasue of it. He gets called:
Sir Cuthbert
Cuth Daddy
Cuffy
King Cuffy
....the list goes on. Choose a royal or a Shakepearean name to be distingused, not a Monty Python name.
For Gods sake, do not name it a Chav name such as:
Kane
Kyle
Jay
Jordan
Michell
Jorshua.
Tiffany
Chantelle
In addition, do not try to one of those pretentious families who are desparate to be upperclass and trendy by calling their children:
Harry
Archie
Theo
Charlotte
Amber
Molly
Charlie
There are so many pitfalls. As for Cuthbert - forget it.
Good luck.

You are kidding right?! lol. The poor child would get so much aggro at school if he was called that. What about James? That is a distinguished name and fashionable too. Cuthbert is a big no no!

I'm afraid that the poor boy would be teased, but if you all like that name, how about using it as a middle name or how about you change your name to Cuthbert.
We have baby births anounced in our saturday paper. Some really strange name. My fave is Forever unique.

I'm sorry if this seems rude.. but your step-daughter is having the baby. Cuthbert is a terrible sounding name, sorry. And it is her choice what to name the child. When I was pregnant with my son no one liked his name. And EVERYONE had their own names they liked. I named him what I chose. Pregnant with my second baby (which I lost) her name was to be Riley. My step-dad wanted her to be Mandy Lynn. It didn't matter. She was Riley. It is her choice... And her baby.

Depends on why you want to call him that.
My son is called Arthur which is faily old fashioned but I think its cool as its unsual and he's named after King Arthur. Its also a family name which has great meaning in our family. Therefore its a special name for us and I hope he will value and treasure it.
Cuthbert is nerdy sounding but if you feel your step grandson could grow up to take this on the chin and make his name his own then go for it! You could even start a new trend!
