You wouldn't be interested either if you already had Boy Scout Troop 144, and a State prison team on the docket.
Sheesh.
Look, ND has never been one to take on any kind of difficulty in their non-conference schedule. Outside of USC, it's Tony's House of Pizza caliber.
Anything about commitments for the next 10 years is at best absurd. Their alumni demand championship caliber seasons, and tuning up on helpless opponents is one way of assuring wins.
Money talks, and ND has their own TV contract. You can bet that there would be more money in it for them to play better talent. They could buy out a lesser team, and still come out better financially.

Let's establish a few things:
-Notre Dame consistently plays one of the toughest schedules in the country. Ask any college football expert, it's a simple fact. To all you buffoons who point to their traditional rivalry with Navy as an indication of weakness, last I checked the Middies went 8-4 and nearly beat BC in their bowl game. That's more than you can say for Miss. St., Ole Miss, Vandy, and UK or any number of other conference bottom-feeders that big time schools pad their schedules with.
-just because Notre Dame lost big to Michigan and USC last year doesn't mean they "always" do. Last I checked, ND had beaten UM the two years prior, and a couple decades ago the Irish had a double digit winning streak against the Trojans. Try getting some facts, please.
-as for the question, Notre Dame's AD is a giant douche. He's more concerned with $$$ than preserving ND's traditionally tough schedule, which is ridiculous because Notre Dame is doing just fine in that regard. Besides, most Irish fans regard their national schedule as sacrosanct, so much so that the appearance of Nevada and other Western non-BCS schools on future schedules had caused a general uproar. However, "Dr." White is intent on his pet 7-4-1 model meaning that ND turns down the chance to innagurate Minnesota's new stadium (certainly not out of fear of losing), turns down a home-and-home with another one of college football's great programs, and is basically dumbing the schedule down so that the Irish can contend for a national championship (i.e., making it comparable to Ohio St. or Florida's). I personally think it's a shame and a very ugly trend in college football (with Notre Dame nowhere near the worst offender), and I hope that something will befall Dr. White such that ND-'bama can actually happen.
-I also must note that even if ND were willing, Alabama doesn't actually have to space on its '09 schedule. Just another example of Nick Saban being a wily, dishonest logroller.

Because the two real teams they do play, Michigan and USC, they get decimated... they don't want to play another real team and good team like Bama and get killed 4 times a year...
Notre Dame is the biggest pansy school in the NCAA and this just proves it more.... they're highly over rated and deserve no respect until they play more real teams

Notre Dame isn't remotely interested in playing any more teams that might be good.

because hes scared, and he needs to step up and play this Alabama team, he needs to get rid of all the service academies that they play so that they get al the number one recruits year in and year out. ND continues to play a weak schedule and is undeservingly placed into BCS games where they are physically outmatched (i.e sugar bowl vs LSU)

Maybe schedules are already made.
Never mind, normal explanations, you want a conspiracy theory.
