In a world where there is a voice to the opposition, then yes we choose our beliefs. Most people change a few of their core beliefs over their life, indicating a choice.

In some respects, otherwise No. Our culture, family, and other major influencing factors choose many of our beliefs before we even realize that we have a choice. Once we are old enough to understand and make our own belief stances, those that we grew up with are almost unconsciously true.

Facinating question. (May belong in philosophy, but what the hey...)
I believe so.
I come from a very politically, religiously, and philisophically diverse family. My father is conservative, my mother liberal, my brother atheistic, my other brother devout.
The common thread is that we all exercised our individual free will to choose the belief system that would govern our lives. Just come to one of our family reunions sometime and you'll see a perfect example of why I think we each choose our beliefs.

That's a good question. Is there such a thing as free will. If you were to have some kind of super computer that knew everything about your genes and everything about the environment you grew up in, it is concievable that it could predict all your future choices.
If nature and nurture are what makes us, where does free will come in?
