its a state of mind...your over the hill when you think and act over the hill

I think it depends on your state of mind. I decided when I turned 50 that I had reached the top. My husband said the day he turned 21 that life was all down hill from there. But, most of the time he acts like a 12 year old. I guess you are as old as you feel.

AARP starts at 50
senior discounts are from 50 to 65

EDIT:
Why are there so many thumbs down to this question when everyone has really good answers. I am giving every one of them a thumbs up.

People have a weird perception of 'over the hill'. I am 51, and I do not consider myself ' over the hill'. It probably helps that I don't look my age. People usually think I'm around 36 years of age.

My grandmother died at 91, and until her last year, she was active, funny and far from being 'over the hill'.

Over the hill is when you give up and begin believing the lies that society promotes to boot you out of the way making room for the important Young people. However today more and more wiser people are saying kiss my ***, I am important and sure as the hell not over the hill. When they put that in their minds they can live productive Verile and happy lives right in to their hundreds.

In the Olden days, it was at least 800 yrs old... now in the current times, it's 100 yrs, but a few younger people will say, 40 or 50, but actually, the New 40 & New 50 are like the 25 yr old of yester year..
