It certainly helps, but it also depends on what kind of "type" you are. If your leading man/lady type, then a greater emphasis will be placed on looks. If you're more of a character actor, than there's more leeway in the looks department.
Also note, that while it is extremely unfair, men can get away with not being great looking much more than women can.
Yyou should strive to be the best that YOU can be. Eat well, work out, take care of your skin and hair. There will always be someone out there who's better looking/younger/more talented/etc, so you really can't get caught up in that. Just do what you do and remember why you love to do it.

Hi,
if you just think about the question you asked, you should be able to answer it for yourself. Certainly you've watched television and movies. Are all the actors attractive?
That's one of the great things that's not tainted by the obsession with fisical beauty. Certain looks might be somewhat at an advantage when it comes to getting work, but the fact is that there are actors of all shapes, looks, sizes and ages.
Whether you decide you want to do something about your teeth will depend on how important it is to your career and how important it is to you.

No you do not. I am an actor myself and people do not find me to be attractive but they look at how I act and they also look at my personnality and that is what proves that I am a good actor. If you plan to become an actor in the future I strongly incourage you to do so. I started off really bad but at college I started working hard and I ended up becoming a pretty decent actor. Practice makes perfect. I can only incourage you to work hard. It is up to you to chose whether or not you are going to work hard.
So by and I hope this helped you!
Bye!!!

Let's get real. Of course you do. If your are not attractive, no one will want to watch you act. However, attractiveness comes in many forms. Good looks, lean, muscular body, great conversationalist, money, power, great skill--Jack Palance was rather an ugly man, but his terrific skill as an actor and the power he projected made him a star. You can always get your teeth capped. But you can get roles with imperfect teeth. I did.

In most cases the answer would be yes but there are actors out there who's talent got them where they are. I keep thinking about Betty Davis, cute when she was young but... Karl Malden, Adam Sandler oh wait he isn't an actor is he..hehehe

To answer your question, no, but this industry is very cruel in what its looking for, in the commercial world smiles sell, so if you want to go into the lucrative area of acting in commercials/commercial print, then consider having some work done on your teeth. (you don't have to go to extremes, but if they are relatively strait, clean and all there, your doing just fine!)

American's are very conscious about "looks. Look at the people on TV and movies. TV and movies are a good
barometer what American's want to see.
People in other countries are not hung-up "look-ism" as we American's.
There's an "old saying, no body likes ugly!"
