Ok..I rented the movie "The Last Kiss" (2001) also known as "L'ultimo baccio" in Italian. I wanted to watch it with some friends but they don't speak Italian. The entire movie was Italian language and they got tired of reading the subtitles! haha. It is a great chick flick but I am the only here that speaks Italian. I was hoping that the movie was dubbed in english but it was not! Aren't most foreign movies dubbed in english?

Well, I am English and only English, but every movie that I've seen has had an option to change the languages, I haven't ever rented a foreign movie, so I wouldn't know to much about that, I assume most movies have an option to change languages. I don't know if this helps or not. But it was worth a shot.

No way. Ar least not available in the US. Only the smallest amount of foreign films get enough interest from the American public for the studio to invest in the dubbing. And if the movie is popular enough (or controversial enough) the US makes it's own version.

Like 3 Men and a Baby, La Cage au Folles, etc. There used to be TV stations that brought foreign films, Bravo and A&E, now they bring the same junk as every one else. If you get the Independent Film Channel or Sundance you can see a few notable foreign films.

The problem with foreign films is that they don't have enough special effect and/or car chases and a lot of them actually require some thought.

Very few are dubbed anymore. The process of getting actors who can get the emotions right and not just the translations is alot more expensive and may end up changing the meaning of the whole movie.

I have seen some foreign films both ways and very much prefer the subtitles, especially if it is a classic.

Not with DVDs. Most seem to offer subtitles and other language tracks, but I haven't seen one in years (and I watch a lot of foriegn movies from Netflix) with a dubbed track. Search out, there may be some, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

FYI to your friends: subtitles take practice, but aren't something to worry over and shouldn't be hated, just watch the film.

There are many that are dubbed but the majority are not. Most are created with the subtitles only.

Good Luck!!!
