I had an episiotomy when my first child was born and had to be stitched up. It didn't hurt while they were doing it(they gave me a shot of something to numb it, I didn't have an epidural or any pain meds). With my 2nd, no episiotomy, just tore some. Got a shot to numb me down there and was stitched up. I have to say, healing from a tear is better than healing from an episiotomy.

I had a lot of stitches down there because there was no time to give me an episiotomy, when the doctor finaly made it to me I was trying my hardest not to push and as soon as I saw him I couldn't hold it back anymore. I ripped very badly (I didn't have an epidural by the way). You are numbed when you get stitches but my doctor accidently didn't numb me in a couple spots and it hurt very badly when he was stitching me up in those spots. The stitches I got were the ones that dissolve so they itched more than anything.

Yes I got stitches down there...6 to be exact. At the time my epidural was still effective so i didnt feel it but after it wore off i felt it. Some women dont get stitches though,it depends on how...well...stretchy-for lack of a better word LOL!- you are down there. If you dont end up with an epidural-im not positive about this-but im sure they wouldnt have a problem giving you a local anethetic when they stitch you.I can only speak from my own experience and i can just say my stitches hurt alot worse when i got home.In the hospital definatly wasnt a problem!!! They gave me dermaplast to spray down there and used tucks pads, They said to use ice but that was just TOO COLD and intense for me,a cold cloth or the tucks pads worked better for me. Im sorry i cant be of more help!

Just to put it short and simple. I did have to get a few stitches when i gave birth. I had an epidural and did not feel it. Even if you don't have an epidural they are going to give you some numbing medicine so you won't feel it. You don't have a thing to worry about.

I did not feel the episotomy because I had an epidural. The stitches did hurt a little bit after coming home - but it was more psychological for me than anything. If you don't have an epidural, I believe that they can give you a local numbing agent. But after giving birth, I did not even know he stitched me up until he told me because I was watching the nurse and my husband clean up my baby.

yes i got stitches because they cut me so i wouldnt rip, it didnt hurt for 2 reasons, #1 because i had the epidural and yes they give you a shot down there to help make sure its numb, now after you get your feeling back yes you can feel the stitches, you have to sit on a pillow and it still feels like your sitting on a basketball, they should give you a water bottle or a sitsbath to use, put hot water in it, as hot as you can stand it and rinse yourself off after every time you go to the bathroom, and it really helps , you wont believe how good it feels while using it, hope this helps
PS. just to let you know, almost 8 years since i had my first child, ( thats when i had stitches ) and i still have problems out of the scar, it hurts when you and your man does you know what lol,

I had a natural birth ( well, natural, except for the cervadil) anyway, no pain meds or epidural. I had to get some stitches, I asked for some local anesthesia, because I'm scared to death of stitches (A dog bit my face when I was nine, 13 stitches in my chin) I felt like I was gonna have a panic attack if they started sewing and I could feel it. I don't know if they usually do or not, but I straight up asked for it.

I had 4 tears. I had stitches inside and outside. I had an epidural and did not feel ANYTHING when they were stitching me up. If you have a natural birth (no pain meds) and need stitches, they give you a numbing shot (like novicane) to numb the area like they do with regular areas that are being stitched up. Soudns harsh and painful, bt you will be holding your baby and serously not care in the least!
Good luck and congrats!

Trust me, stitches will be the last thing on your mind at that time. I did get stitches and had an epidural so i didn't feel a thing. I thought getting the episiotomy was going to hurt and i didn't even feel it. You can definately handle it after the whole birthing process.

I had stitches with both my boys from tearing naturally (opted not to have an episiotomy). I was still hurting from the initial tear so I really didn't notice the midwife putting in stitches hardly at all. I couldn't tell you if she used any anesthetic, I'm pretty sure not since there was no time for it to set. It really wasn't a big deal and I had no painkillers (epidural or other).
