A city in which I loved growing up as a kid has turned into a "cesspool". (My only theory is the illegals & the Hurricane Katrina refugees)

IF you're an 80's kid in Houston: you KNOW what I'm talking about. Astroworld/Waterworld: gone
Richmond Strip: gone

The city has basically IMO turned into a ghetto with the exception of the River Oaks, Memorial, Clear Lake, Tanglewood & Woodlands area: which isn't really "H- Town". I HATE that nickname. I know y'all are going to say "MOVE" & believe you me : I am working on it.

Hi, Native Houstonian, here, living in NYC.

I heard what happened, when the IDIOT mayor dumped the Katrina people in Houston.

I was so annoyed I almost wrote him a letter, to ask if he had completely lost his mind.

Whaaaaat Richmond Strip Gone! Aaaghh!
I feel your pain. I'm in the process of moving back to Houston.

I hope those that can't be mentioned, have not destroyed the Light Rail System.

I agree,I'll never forget when they cut down "The Tree" in Spring Branch to build a freaking Auto-zone.And speaking of the Katrina refugees....remember,no good deed goes unpunished.

I lived in Clute when i was a teen in the 80's.I went to Houston often, and it wasn't a big ghetto. That place must have really went to hell. From what i hear, the Brazosport area has went to crap because of illegal aliens, and that used to be a pretty decent place.

Houston accepted 80,000 Katrina "victims" and the Houston crime rate went up 17%.....do the math.

I agree Houston totally sucks now .....they got nothing here that would attract anyone to visit. It is true Houston took on all those refugees and crime did go up , go figure! I love Houston, it's home.....but it is so trashy now and somebody has to speak up and I'm glad you said it. I wanna move away to and working on it .........

Denise, don't run away -make it better. Everyday good people move here, and bad ones leave. It's up to us to make it better. There are lots of great neighborhoods around here you didn't mention, such as my own, Oak Forrest.

Things change... i miss those days too. But I've found places that still have that feel to me... guess I just go lucky.
I loved Houston then and and still love it today!!
