The first horror movie, only about three minutes long, was made by imaginative French filmmaker Georges Melies, titled Le Manoir Du Diable (1896) (aka The Devil's Castle) - containing some elements of later vampire films.

The very first horror film ever made was apparently a French made effort entitled "Le Manoir du Diable" (The Devil's Manor). This was a short film about a devil-vampire named Mephistopheles (played by the director Georges Méliès) , and was released in 1896.

Nosferatu has to be one of the first....
"Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror" is a German Expressionist film by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, starring Max Schreck as the vampire Count Orlok. Shot in 1921 and released in 1922, it was an unauthorised adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula, but with names and other details changed (for instance, "vampire" became "Nosferatu", and Count Dracula became Count Orlok) due to the studio's inability to obtain the rights to the story.

The one that is copied the most and the one most horror directors site as their influence, was a French movie entitled "Eyes Without a Face". It came out in 1960.
If you watch it and realize that nothing before this time had ever been done - it's quite dramatic.

I'm not sure what the exact first one was but I know Nosferatu was made in 1922 so it had to be one of the first ones

.dont know about the first horror flick, but the oldest one i'm aware of is Nosferatu

seriously....i think there are'nt really that much gd horror movies..but one i think is pretty much the first horror movie is dracula from early 1900's..hehe
