I heard it breifly mentioned on an educational kids video that upon the death of their wife, a Pilgrim father would write to "a company on the east coast" to send off for a new replacement mother to raise his children.
I have had no luck finding any info on who these women were or the name of company on the east coast they mentioned.
I am seeking any info related to this subject.
Thank You

I believe they were called "mail order brides." I love the movies, starring Glenn Close & Christopher Walken, which take place in the pioneer days. (Sarah Straight & Tall, & two or three sequels) I'm not sure of the name of the company that dealt in finding replacements for the pioneer widowers. If I find such info, I will come back & share that info with you. :)

I have seen a similar movie where a man lost his wife and placed and ad in a paper for a female to help with his son and working on the farm. I would love to know if these things really happened than. I haven't seen the movie "Sarah: Plain & Tall" but it might sould just like it.
