First - turn all the equipment off, including the cable modem.
The linksys router should have a WAN or uplink Ethernet port. This connects to the Internet port on the modem.
Turn the cable modem on. Wait 30 seconds or so, then turn on the linksys box.
Connect your PCs Ethernet port, the one your currently connecting directly to the cable modem to one of the 4 Ethernet ports on the back of the linksys device.
Turn on your PC.
Once your PC is up and running/finished booting.
Did the PC get an IP address assigned to it from the linksys device? Should be something like 192.168.1.2.
If you enter 192.168.1.1 into your browsers address does it connect with the linksys management screen?
If yes, the next step is to see if you can connect to something on the Internet.
If you can't, then go back to the linksys management via your browser. By default there is no user name and the password is admin. Go to the status screen and see if the router was assigned an IP address from the service provider. If not, there in lies the problem. Try calling your service provider tech support.

First, make sure there is power to both the Modem and the Wireless Router. From there, take the Ethernet cord from the Modem and plug it into the "Internet" port at the back of the Router.
After that, boot up your computer, Right-Click "START", and click "Explore". Look for "My Network Places" in the left column. Right click it, click Properties.
Assuming you have a wireless card properly installed, single-click "Wireless Network". Then, in the left of that window, click "View available wireless networks". A network named "linksys" should be there, that is the default name of your Router's network. Double-click to connect. Allow some time for your computer to connect properely, and aquire an IP address.
Once that is done, you should be good to go. Type "http://192.168.1.1" in your browser to configure your Router. The default User Name is "admin" and password is "admin". From there, you can set up Wireless security, Port Forwarding, and more. If you have any more troubles, read the your Router's User Manual, or visit their support website (whislt wired to your modem).
Good luck!

I have a Wireless - G Adapter, i use i for my Xbox. Wireless-G is gaming compatible. I don't know if a laptop would work, you need a wireless - N or something.
Or go to www.Linksys.com, type in the model number and it should tell you how to hook it up.

i think you can go down to the toolbar and on the left there should be a PC with three bars to the right of it. click on that and it should say something like available networks and click on the name of your router.
